THE HOVER LOUNGE
FLOATING FEELING
Developed as a part of an exploratory series of objects that expose the relationship between the inside and outside of familiar structures, the Hover Lounge features an ultra-thin shell, whose open front allows an unobstructed view into the structure. Just below the heaviest load, the shell narrows considerably, emphasizing the astonishing degree of strength provided by such a slim skeleton. To sit on the Hover Lounge is to experience a sensation of floating in mid-air. “It’s the result of striking the right balance between material and form—not to mention luck,” says Antonioni.
AN INSIDE SEAT
Antonioni calls The Hover Lounge an honest form—and it is. In fact, it might be called confessional. Whereas virtually every man-made object or product around us conceals its inner workings—hiding beneath layers of surfaces and styling—the Hover Lounge bears it all, completely exposing its interior. “The Hover Lounge has nothing to hide,” says Antonioni. “I wanted to prove that an exposed form, one that gives you a clear view of its insides, could still be inspiring and beautiful.”
HOVER AT HOME OR WORK
To bring the Hover Lounge to a larger market, Antonioni is working to broker a deal with the right manufacturer. With current prototypes in aluminum and leather, there’s also potential to use various additional materials, including carbon fiber, plastic and magnesium, as well as upholstery. With so many options, the Hover Lounge will add interest in either a home or retail setting, divulging its innermost “secrets” like a close friend.
